Circle of thrones

Carved thrones in sweet chestnut at Nant Mill Country Park near Wrexham. This commission was part of a larger project, which included carving workshops with local school-children, and other activities by the rangers, and other artists and crafts-people. One aspect of the project was to encourage the children to learn about the wild birds in the locality, and their diet. To this end, these thrones are carved on their backs to illustrate various birds. Their food is hidden for the children to find in the form of little relief carvings on the thrones.
